blue sky big birds

LAZILY opening an eye to look out for the next cloud upon a big blue canvas, an unforgettable silhouette is spied. Bringing its own misshaped shade along for the ride, the big bird fleetingly obliterates the sun. Soaring and searching, battling the breeze, this silent bomber is on a mission: to find and retrieve. But not rescue. For it’s catch is not destined to live.

With both eyes open, magnificent living monuments of a sea faring life come into view. Grey in colour, grand in stature, this gang of Pelicans scours the waves. One of the pack spies a glint. Not of scales but of blades. Posing for photos by the pier, a fisherman obliviously sharpens his knife. Large skeleton bodies of his catch are raised and displayed, flesh expertly carved and safely stored. The Pelicans take flight. Making his way down the pier, the fisherman’s companion prepares to swing hefty carcuses to a watery grave. Much to the winged gang’s delight.

Standing upon both feet. Whilst stretching out the day’s sun and sand from the body, boat and bird are seen interacting. Eyeing up the small vessel from a perch at the stern, a tall legged, long beaked, white feathered scavenger calmly waits. As man gathers up his day’s work, bird stealthily drops down to deck to investigate. Swiftly slipping into his post is a bulky, big beaked pelican. He watches the nimble white, as a third bird bobs in the sea. The fisherman abandons ship. The motly crew of feathers is left to its own devices.
