travel bite: Hanoi, Vietnam

HIGH heels, slim fit jeans and a tight red t-shirt walk out from the shop-house. A large shiny motorcycle stands proudly before her on the pavement. She dons her ladybird red helmet.

A slight motion of the girl’s arm gets someone to position the bike down by the kirb. Mounting the machine it becomes clear that her feet would not reach the ground when astride were it not for the stiletto sandals. Engines are revved and off she speeds, directly into oncoming traffic.

Banh Cuon: Vietnamese ‘ravioli’

Meat and mushroom filled Banh Cuon topped with a vinegar dressing, crushed peanuts and fresh mint and coriander.

Meaty papaya salad with blood sausage and pork bits, crushed peanuts and fresh mint.
